Breastfeeding a low birth weight baby comes with its own unique set of challenges — and its own unique rewards. These babies often have a weak or immature suck, tire quickly at the breast, and may struggle to maintain a deep latch or feed effectively for long enough to meet their needs.
But breast milk is not just food for a low birth weight baby — it is medicine. The protective properties of colostrum and mature breast milk are particularly significant for smaller, more vulnerable babies, making the establishment of breastfeeding one of the most important things you can do for your baby's health and development.
As an IBCLC, Suzi provides specialist support for mothers and low birth weight babies including
You do not have to navigate this alone. With the right support, many mothers of low birth weight babies go on to breastfeed successfully — and Suzi is here to help you get there

Tongue tie is one of the most common — and most commonly missed — causes of breastfeeding difficulty. It can affect latch, milk transfer, supply, and comfort for both mother and baby, and when left unidentified it is a leading reason mothers stop breastfeeding earlier than they planned.
As an IBCLC, Suzi provides thorough tongue tie assessments for breastfeeding babies, looking at both the structure and the function of the tongue — because how the tongue moves matters just as much as how it looks.
Signs that tongue tie may be affecting your baby's feeding
What the assessment involves
Each assessment is thorough and unhurried. Suzi will observe a full feed, assess your baby's oral anatomy including both anterior and posterior tongue tie, and evaluate how the tongue is functioning during feeding. You will leave with a clear understanding of what has been found and what it means for your feeding journey.
A team approach
Tongue tie management is never a one-size-fits-all process, and it is rarely a one-person job. Where tongue tie division is recommended, Suzi will provide a referral to an appropriate provider and work collaboratively with that team to support you before and after the procedure. Feeding support before and after division is just as important as the procedure itself — and Suzi will be with you through every step of that process

Lactation consultations are not a brief check-in. A thorough assessment takes time — Suzi will observe a full feed, assess your baby's latch, weight, and behaviour, review your history, and work with you to develop a plan that actually fits your life. Please allow at least an hour, and sometimes longer depending on your needs.

IBCLCs are the gold standard in lactation care. With specialist training that goes beyond general midwifery or nursing, Suzi brings deep expertise together with her midwifery background, giving you truly holistic care for both you and your baby.
